Columbia City Church of Hope seeks to provide a place where people can integrate their various experiences of life through ritual, community, and story. We seek to shape our imagination in the prophetic confidence that God is at work in the world and to practice ways of seeing it.
In March every year, we begin the process of growing fresh vegetables and fruits in our community garden. We have two communal garden beds with individuals digging their own beds every year (but we are always open to sharing space)! We've grown kale, blueberries, strawberries, squash, flowers, and more! What life would you like to add to our community?
Housing Justice Action Team
As part of our effort to take concrete action for justice as a community of faith, we meet once a month to talk about how Church of Hope can aid those who are homeless or in danger of being displaced and how we can learn from and work with other organizations around the city who work for justice in housing for all. We have partnered with Mary’s Place in the past to provide emergency shelter to families through their rotating shelter program and are now turning our eyes and work towards advocacy for affordable housing for all.
We meet each month on the last Monday or Tuesday of each month (it alternates).
If you are interested in attending a meeting or joining our Action Team, we meet the last Monday or Tuesday of each month (it alternates) from 7pm-8pm. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions or want more information!
Racial Justice Action Team
We meet once a month to develop concrete actions that we as a congregation can take to help further racial justice in our church, our neighborhood, our city and beyond. We dive deep together to help each other do the internal work of undoing racial biases in our lives and worship and we work together to find ways to make our spaces more welcoming for people of color.
If you are interested in coming to a meeting or joining our Action Team, we meet every 3rd Sunday from 12pm-1pm. All are welcome! Please contact email@example.com with questions or for more information!
In 2017, we are proud to partner with Compass Housing with 13 new housing units in our parking lot with dignified housing and people-centered services to help people transition out of homelessness.
Kids & Race Program
We are partnering with the local organization Kids and Race to offer workshops and resources to help parents and children go beyond the superficial notion of colorblindness in order to see and challenge the ways that white privilege shapes our lives.
Through this community of faith, God offers us the incredible privilege of being the face and hands and feet of God for each other and for this beautiful, hurting world.
If you find a spiritual home at Columbia City Church of Hope, we invite you to consider making a pledge: to commit to a certain amount that feels right for you and giving on a regular weekly or monthly basis. Pledge cards are available each year in autumn, for financial gifts as well as for volunteering of time and energy. You may set up a recurring donation through the secure link on our website.
We are a cooperative kind of community, and we need YOUR help! If you are interested in learning more about opportunities to serve alongside our community, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or signup by clicking on the button below.
